Assign Individual User Permissions
Use this when you need to give one person access to specific tools in Breadcrumb without changing access for everyone else. Permissions can be assigned at company level, which applies across all sites, or at site level, which applies only to the selected sites.
What this means
- Individual user permissions are permission tick-boxes you apply directly to one user.
- Company-level permissions apply across all sites in that company.
- Site-level permissions apply only on the specific site(s) you select.
When you’ll use this
- A user needs access to a tool (for example, Reports, User Directory, Announcements, Permits) but shouldn’t get “full admin” access.
- A user needs access on one site only (for example, a single project) rather than across the company.
- You need to override or add access for one person without changing the permissions assigned to a role.
Step-by-step
Common issues
User is added as a host but still can’t access anything
-
Check that permissions were actually ticked and saved. Being listed as a Company Host or Site Host alone does not automatically grant access.
User can access the tool on one site but not another
-
This usually means permissions were applied at site level, not company level. If they need the same access everywhere, apply it at company level.
User has a role, but the permission still isn’t working
-
In “mixed” setups, users can receive permissions from either their role or their individual user permissions. Confirm the permission is enabled in at least one place (role or individual user permissions), and that you saved after changes.
Too much access granted by accident
-
If “Has All Permissions” (or similar) was enabled, turn it off and then re-select only the required permissions. Save again and re-check the user’s access.
Why this matters
- Keeps access tight: people get only what they need to do their job.
- Prevents site-wide disruption: changing a role affects many users, while individual permissions affect only one person.
Need help?
If you’re unsure which permissions to select, ask your internal admin/support lead for the recommended permission set for that user’s job. If access still doesn’t update after saving, have the user fully log out and back in, then re-check the permissions scope (company vs site).
