Manage Site-Specific Visitor Types

Visitor types determine which options people see at check-in and which site-specific requirements, for example, the inductions or forms that apply to them. This is useful when a site needs a different set of visitor types from the company defaults, or when a visitor type should only be shown or hidden for one specific site.

What this means

  • Visitor types are the categories people select when checking in (for example: Employee, Subcontractor, Visitor).
  • Site-specific visitor types are visitor types that are enabled or disabled for one individual site, without changing other sites.

When you’ll use this

  • A site needs to show only certain visitor types at check-in (for example, only Employee and Subcontractor).
  • A site induction or requirement is meant to apply only to specific visitor types, and the site is currently allowing extra types.
  • You’re setting up a new site (or a site template) and want the correct visitor types enabled from day one.

Step-by-step

Common issues

Visitor types dropdown shows extra options

What to check

  • Check which visitor types are enabled for the site and for the company. If a visitor type is enabled, it can appear in the visitor type dropdown at check-in.

What to do

  • Disable the visitor types that should not be available for that site in the site’s Visitor Types settings, then save changes.

Can I delete a visitor type?

What to check

  • If a visitor type has already been used (someone has checked in with it), it may not be possible to fully delete because it is associated with existing data.

What to do

  • Disable the visitor type so it can’t be used going forward. If it must be removed entirely, this typically requires a dev request and a decision on what to do with historical records that used that visitor type.

Why this matters

  • Clean visitor type options reduce check-in errors and prevent people selecting the wrong category.
  • Correct visitor type setup helps ensure the right site-specific inductions and requirements apply to the right people.
