Send a Site Alert

This article explains how to send a site alert to workers on a specific site. Use it when you need to communicate urgent site-wide information, such as hazards, access changes, weather warnings, or other instructions that require immediate attention.

What this means

  • A site alert is a message sent to workers on a site, (by SMS, or by push notification). SMS is recommended as this will send to everyone regardless of notification settings.
  • Who receives alerts and what you can track depends on permissions and platform (app vs web portal).

When you’ll use this

  • There is a new hazard on site and workers need immediate instructions.
  • Site access changes (gate closed, muster point change, traffic update).
  • Weather or emergency guidance that is not a full evacuation.
  • You need to quickly communicate an operational update to everyone currently on site.

Step-by-step

Common issues

Workers say they didn’t receive the alert

What to check

  • Their phone has signal and internet access
  • Notifications are enabled for the app (if sending by push notification)
  • Battery optimisation / low power mode isn’t blocking notifications
  • Do Not Disturb / Focus mode isn’t silencing alerts
  • The app is allowed to run in the background (especially on Android)

What to do

  • Resend the alert if needed and follow up via site supervisors as a backup channel
  • Ask impacted workers to fix notification/background/battery settings after the event

Can I see who received or opened the site alert?

What to check

  • Whether you are using the mobile app or the web portal, and whether you are a site host or a company host

What to do

  • In the mobile app, site hosts can’t see whether a worker received/opened a site alert
  • In the web portal, company hosts can view past site alerts in the audit log (it shows what was sent, when, and by whom), but it does not show exactly which individuals received it.
  • If you need to infer who it went to, compare the send time against who was on site at that time (live attendance / activity reporting).

I’m not receiving site alerts as a host

What to check

  • Whether you are set up as a company host or a site host
  • Whether company-level notifications are enabled (required for both company and site host alerting if sending via push notification).

What to do

  • Enable company-level notifications
  • Confirm you are assigned to the correct site if you are a site host

Why this matters

  • Site alerts help you communicate time-sensitive safety and operational information quickly
  • A clear alert reduces confusion and helps prevent incidents when conditions change fast
