Setting Up Question Display Conditions
Display conditions help you control whether an Account Setup question is shown or hidden based on how a previous question was answered. This makes the setup process easier to follow by showing only the questions that are relevant at that point. For example, you might display a “Comments” question only when someone selects “No” in an earlier question.
What this means
- A display condition is a rule that controls when a question appears.
- It usually works by linking a “trigger” question (the earlier question) to a “dependent” question (the one you only want to show sometimes).
When you’ll use this
- When you want a follow-up question only if a specific answer is selected (example: show “Comments” if the answer is “No”).
- When you want to reduce clutter in Account Setup by hiding questions that aren’t relevant.
Step-by-step
Common issues
Condition shows “N.A. Question Answer” or can’t find the answer
-
This usually happens when the trigger question or its answer options changed after conditions were set.
What to check
- The trigger question still exists and is still earlier in the flow.
- The trigger question’s answer options haven’t been renamed or removed.
What to do
- Re-select the trigger question in the display condition.
- Re-select the answer option(s), save again, and re-test.
Dependent question appears at the wrong time
What to check
- The condition is set to the correct answer option (for example, “No” vs “Yes”).
- If the trigger is a multi-option question, confirm you selected the exact intended option.
What to do
- Update the rule so it matches only the intended answer(s).
- Save and re-test.
You need the question to show for multiple answers
What to check
- Whether the tool allows selecting multiple answers in a single condition for that question type.
What to do
- If multiple answers can’t be selected at once, add separate conditions for each answer that should show the dependent question.
Why this matters
- It keeps Account Setup shorter and easier to complete, especially for customers with simpler configurations.
- It reduces data-entry errors by only asking for extra details when they’re actually relevant.
Need help?
If the conditions still don’t behave as expected, confirm exactly which trigger question and which answer should show the follow-up. If needed, ask your internal support contact to verify the trigger question options and the question order in the setup flow.
