Start an Evacuation Roll Call

This article explains how to begin an evacuation roll call so you can account for everyone signed on to site during an emergency or drill. It should be used as soon as an evacuation is initiated to help track who is safe and who remains unaccounted for.

What this means

  • Starting an evacuation roll call creates an active roll call list based on the workers who are signed on at the time.
  • Workers who are signed on should receive an evacuation alert on their device, and a siren may sound depending on their device settings.

When you’ll use this

  • There is a real emergency and the site needs to account for all workers immediately.
  • You are running an evacuation drill and need a record of the roll call.

Step-by-step

Common issues

Workers say they didn’t receive the evacuation alert or siren

What to check

  • The worker had an internet connection at the time
  • Notifications are enabled for the app
  • Battery optimisation or low power mode isn’t blocking alerts
  • Do Not Disturb / Focus modes aren’t silencing notifications
  • The app is allowed to run in the background (especially on Android)

What to do

  • Proceed with the roll call using the list in the app (don’t wait for notifications)
  • Ask impacted workers to update their notification/background/battery settings after the event

Someone is missing from the roll call list

What to check

  • Whether they were actually signed on at the time the evacuation started

What to do

  • If your process requires it, manually record the person and follow your escalation procedure for missing workers

Why this matters

  • Helps the site team quickly confirm who is safe and who may still be at risk
  • Creates an accurate record of the evacuation event for review and reporting
